One of my favorite photos from this session is the one where she’s sitting on the floor beside the couch, looking down with a little smile. The light catches the freckles on her shoulder, and you can see the color in her moth and bee tattoos. A few frames later, she’s looking straight into my camera with an entirely different expression. I love those two photos together because you get to see how much can change in a portrait with just a glance.
Black lace against white sheets
For the portraits on the bed, I loved the contrast between her black lace bodysuit and the white sheets. The tiny bows, the gold chain, and the color in her tattoos all had room to stand out against such a simple backdrop.
I photographed her from above for some of those frames, then came down to her eye level for the portrait where she’s looking off to the side. The overhead photos show all the texture in the sheets and lace, while the closer portrait draws you right to her expression. Even the floor beside the bed gave us a completely different image. With the window behind her and her head resting against the mattress, the light traced her profile and left most of the room in shadow.
A moodier look by the window
Over by the gray couch, she wore a second black bodysuit with a subtle leopard pattern. The sheer curtains softened the window light, and the darker corner gave those portraits a moodier feel. I especially love the frame with the curtain blurred along the edge and her eyes looking straight into the lens. It’s the one I keep coming back to after that little smile on the floor.
When I’m helping someone decide what to wear for boudoir, I like to start with what they’re already drawn to. Here, two black pieces gave us plenty of variety because the textures, the light, and the way she wore each piece did so much of the work. And her tattoos brought in the kind of color and detail that made these photos feel like hers.
