“But I Don’t Know How to Pose.”

If I had a dollar for every woman who told me this before her boudoir session, I could probably retire.

“I’m awkward in pictures.”

“I never know what to do with my hands.”

“I don’t know my angles.”

“My husband takes the WORST pictures of me.”

And my personal favorite:

“I’m just not photogenic.”

Girl.

You do not need to be photogenic.

And you definitely do not need to walk into my Shreveport boudoir studio knowing how to pose.

That is literally my job.

You are not expected to know what you're doing

Look through these images.

The placement of her legs. The arch in her back. Where her hands are. The direction of her face. Where she's looking. The way her hair falls. Even where her fingers are placed.

Those aren't things I expect my clients to magically know.

I direct them.

And when I say I direct you, I don't mean I stand across the room and yell, “Okay, be sexy!”

Because what are you even supposed to DO with that? 😂

I'll show you where to put your hands. I'll tell you which leg to bend. I'll move you two inches if that's what the photograph needs. I'll tell you when to point your toes, when to relax your mouth, where to look and when to close your eyes.

Sometimes I'll physically demonstrate the pose myself.

You don't have to figure it out.

Posing isn't about changing your body

This is important.

Good boudoir posing isn't about hiding everything you don't like about yourself.

It's about understanding the body.

Small adjustments completely change a photograph.

Moving a hip.

Lengthening a leg.

Changing the position of a shoulder.

Arching differently.

Moving your hand three inches.

Changing where the camera is in relation to your body.

Those tiny decisions are why hiring someone who actually understands boudoir photography and posing matters.

And I'm not going to use the exact same poses on every woman who walks into my studio.

Bodies aren't interchangeable.

Your session should be photographed for your body, your comfort level and the way you want to see yourself.

“But I'm going to feel awkward.”

Probably.

At least for a few minutes.

You're walking into a photography studio, possibly wearing lingerie, with someone pointing a giant camera at you.

I'd actually be more surprised if you felt completely normal immediately.

But here's the thing:

You don't have to FEEL confident to book a boudoir session.

That's one of the biggest misconceptions about boudoir.

Women think they'll book one “when they feel confident enough.”

After they lose weight.

After they tone up.

After they get a tan.

After they buy the right lingerie.

After some imaginary future version of themselves finally feels ready.

You don't have to arrive as her.

Sometimes you need the photograph to remind you that she's already there.

You also don't have to show everything

Boudoir doesn't have one definition.

Sexy can be a gorgeous bodysuit against a wall.

It can be dramatic shadows across the bed.

It can be bare skin covered by a white sheet.

It can be playful.

Romantic.

Dark and moody.

Soft and feminine.

Or considerably spicier. 😂

We talk about your comfort level before and during your session. You're never required to wear something simply because it's “boudoir.”

And if you want to push yourself a little once you're here? We can do that too.

You are always in control of how much you show.

The photos that look effortless usually aren't

This is one of my favorite things about these images.

They feel effortless.

She looks like she's just lounging across the bed looking incredible.

Meanwhile, behind the camera I'm probably saying:

“Bring that knee toward me.”

“Point your toe.”

“Drop that shoulder.”

“Chin this way.”

“Close your eyes.”

“Hold it.”

That's the difference between looking at boudoir photographs and actually creating them.

The final image should feel natural.

Getting you there is my responsibility.

Honestly?

Not much.

You don't need modeling experience.

You don't need to practice poses in the mirror.

You don't need to know your “good side.”

You don't need to lose ten pounds.

You don't need to become more confident first.

You just need to show up.
